My Bio - Part One: Teenage Years

So I am going to go ahead and start the first content post by following Scott's lead with a bio on me. This first chapter of my bio will be about my high school experiences and my opinion on the teenage years in general.

I went to high school in Satellite Beach, Florida. Satellite is about 45 minutes east of Orlando and right on the beach. When I say right on the beach, I am not exaggerating. If you could see through a wall, then you could see the beach from my high school parking lot. I was a block away, which always made it a little hard to even go to school. The only reason that I managed to not skip everyday was because I had some really interesting classes. With around 2,800 students, my high school certainly had no shortage of interesting classes.

So much happens here, in these few years. Now don't confuse me with those people who think they were the best and most fulfilling of years of their life, but they are important and meaningful. What high school does is set you on the path to what kind of person you will become. This isn't set in stone, but it definitely sets you on your path. If you are a jerk in in high school, you can always change, but that is what you have to do: change. A part of Newton's First Law of Motion explains my opinion best: an object in motion tends to stay in motion, unless acted upon by another force. The way you are as a teenager is how you will be as an adult unless something happens to change you, whether that be a huge event or just a re-evaluation of whom you are.

When I was a teenager there are a few things that happened in high school that have had a large part in shaping me:

First, I took a graphic design class. This class had so many more far-reaching effects than just creating my interest in graphic arts, which is no small part of my life. What this class did was change my perspective on visual things. I looked deeper into everything. What design elements did I gravitate towards? Besides the visuals, why did I like the things i did? What could I learn about myself through analyzing art and interpreting more than just the visuals? What emotions and feelings could I more easily express through art? Or what ideas could I only express through visual mediums? I had always liked to draw and doodle, but this class started me on the path to being an artist. I had always cared about looking nice, but this all of the sudden I became interested in fashion and how the clothing I wore affected everything. It changed how people reacted to me and how they treated me. It let me express my personality in a new way.

Second, I started listening to a lot more music. I started really paying attention to what I listened to and what I did or did not like about it. I began to read lyrics and care about what the artist was saying and expressing. I diversified what I listened to and tried new genres. I listened to different music based on my mood and used music to change my mood. I listened to music to increase my happiness and I listened to music to get pumped for a game. All in all, I began to realize and appreciate music for what it really is and the power it holds in life. It is NOT just pleasant sounds, which is what I had always thought. It is so much more. To me it is the most artistic, natural and pure thing I know. I maybe an artist, but to me art doesn't come close to expressing and changing mood like music. Nothing does.

More to come later, when I have time... Hopefully Soon.
